Memories of Vera from Keith Hart

When I first met Vera Cox dementia had already taken away her memory. So the only memories I have is of a lovely lady with a frail hand and a warm smile. I’m no doctor but I know from experience, that as well as taking your memories dementia removes your inhibitions, and this can sometimes be ugly and disturbing. However with Vera this was not the case. She was a beautiful and calm soul. You could tell she was deeply rooted in the love of her Saviour the Lord Jesus. It reminds me of the words of the Apostle Paul: Romans 8 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Certainly Vera’s poor physical condition in her latter years could not take from her what the Lord had grown in her during her life on this earth. So what can I say of the Vera that I knew? I would say that all the fruits of the Spirit in Galatians were on open show in Vera Cox in however small amounts that her physical condition allowed: Galatian’s 5 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. I count it a privilege to have met her even for such a short time and I know that this is not the end of the story.
